Bray Area Drug Awareness Month – Activities to Join

Bray Drug Awareness Month

Each November in Bray, there is a month of activity with the aim of raising awareness around various aspects of drug education happening locally and beyond.

It has grown over the years and by now some events are met with great anticipation each year.   The annual art competition is always very popular (617 entries in 2021), with a high level of quality of entries, and produces some great artwork that is re-produced into local posters, bookmarks etc.

The annual Community Conference is another event that normally attracts speakers and attendees from various agencies, backgrounds as well as of course the local community.  This year due to ongoing Covid restrictions the Conference can’t be held, but in it’s place are two online presentations.

Online Presentations

Tuesday Nov 9th

Christina McEleney

Alcohol and Drugs Coordinator with Donegal ETB, will make a presentation on The dangers of Cocaine, from 12 – 1pm.

Tuesday Nov 16th

Gary Broderick

Director of the SAOL project (Dublin), supporting female drug users and their children, will make a presentation on the SAOL project and its operation as a trauma informed service (12 – 1pm)

Anyone can register to take part in these presentations – all they need to do is register with braydrugsawarenessforum@gmail.com to receive a link the event of your choice.

Podcasts

Another option is the podcasts created and added to youtube.  The first of this year’s podcasts are available on youtube.

As part of Bray Drugs Awareness Month 2021, we have published a new audio podcast explaining the operation of the Garda Drug Related Intimidation Reporting Programme.

Sergeant Ger Brennan of Bray Garda station, tells us how the programme works and how the Gardaí at Bray are ready to help anyone threatened by drug related intimidation. Reports received from some of the agencies that we work with on the Bray Drugs Awareness Forum, indicate that drug related intimidation can affect anyone, anywhere in the country.

Practical advice and help is available in all Garda districts and Sergeant Brennan explains how it can be accessed. A list of further information resources is displayed at the end of the podcast.

You can see all of the podcasts and other videos made using the following link to the B.D.A.F. Youtube channel.
